Clay County, KY - The Clay County Judge-Executive, Joe Asher, who is under multiple indictments for public corruption has tendered his resignation to the Clay County Fiscal Court.
Reportedly, Asher resigned on Monday afternoon October 31, 2016 followed shortly thereafter with the election of current Dist. 6 Magistrate Johnny Johnson by the Clay County Fiscal Court members to serve as interim Judge-Exe..
Johnson will now be the sitting Clay County Judge Executive until the Governor can make an official appointment to fulfill the remainder of Joe Asher's elected term.
It is the understanding of ClayCoNews that Governor Matt Bevin has 30 days from October 31, 2016 to appoint someone to fill the remainder of Asher’s term that expires December 31st, 2018.
In addition, (This is unconfirmed and is not to be considered official information) - ClayCoNews has learned from an unofficial news source that Governor Bevin is at liberty to appoint any individual he deems fit to fill the vacant chair left by former Judge Asher, meaning that the new appointee may or may not have any current or former connection(s) to the Clay County Fiscal Court.
