Fatal fire in Harlan County


Lynch, Ky. (December 11, 2016) – Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of a structure fire located on 212 Church Street in the city of Lynch of Harlan County late Saturday night (12-10-16) at approximately 10:26 p.m.

Troopers along with area fire departments were dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, the dwelling was fully engulfed in flames. Lynch, Cumberland and Benham Fire Departments were on the scene and while extinguishing the fire discovered a body in the home.

Raymond Metcalfe, 61, of Lynch was located inside of the residence deceased. He was pronounced deceased by the Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Rich.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no foul play is suspected. The incident is being investigated by Det. Bryan Johnson. Also assisted at the scene were Tpr. Jake Spurlock, Tpr. Justin Barton, Detective Kevin Miller, KSP Arson Investigator Joshua Bunch, and Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Rich.
