Leslie County, KY (June 16, 2019) - Early Sunday morning Deputy Eddie Melton received a complaint that a wrecked rollback was on HWY 421 around Dobber Hollow. The vehicle had been abandoned but Deputy Melton was able to contact the owner who stated the rollback had been stolen from Perry County earlier in the morning.
While on extra patrol in the area of the wrecked rollback Deputy Melton observed two females matching a description of two females who had been seen in the rollback. The two females were attempting to steal a Chevy Cobalt.
Deputy Melton then led a high speed pursuit of the car from HWY 421 to the Hal Rogers Parkway, where the Clay County Sheriffs Office, Manchester Police Department and Leslie County Sheriff Billy Collett also assisted.
Once the car stopped the driver Andrea Wallace of Clearfield, KY attempted to flee on foot.
The passenger Samantha Thomas of Tutor Key, KY was apprehended at the time of the stop.
The females had hitchhiked from Harlan to Hazard.
Both the rollback and the Cobalt will be returned to the owners.
Andrea Wallace age 28 was charged with:
- TBUT or Disp Auto $10,000 or more but under $1,000,000
- TBUT or Disp Auto $500 or more but under $10,000
- Reckless Driving Speeding 21mph over speed limit
- Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree
- Disregarding a stop sign
- Wanton Endangerment of Police Officer, 1st Degree
- Leaving scene of accident-Failure to Render
Samantha Thomas age 31 was charged with:
- TBUT or Disp Auto $10,000 or more but under $1,000,000
- TBUT or Disp Auto $500 or more but under $10,000
- Leaving scene of accident-Failure to Render
