Man arrested after leading police on 2 county chase out of London

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s deputies while assisting London City Police on the pursuit of a black colored Volkswagen Tiguan along with Corbin City Police who joined the pursuit at the Corbin city limits arrested Justin Michael Donley age 26 of Tucker, Georgia on Friday night June 28, 2019 at approximately 8:24 PM.

The arrest occurred off Ky. Highway 26 South of Corbin near Woodbine after London City Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in London and the vehicle failed to stop.

Near Highway 552 at US 25 approximately 6 miles South of London Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Joey Robinson observed the vehicle which earlier eluded officers. Deputy Robinson activated his emergency equipment attempting to get the vehicle to stop however it continued to flee traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour near Hunter Hills Elementary School traveling through a red light at West Cumberland Gap Parkway and into Corbin city limits where they picked up the pursuit traveling through downtown Corbin on South Main Street.

The suspect vehicle then struck a white Cadillac Escalade and continued out Highway 26 toward Woodbine where the vehicle wrecked and the Corbin Police Department along with other law enforcement there placed the male suspect in custody.

London City Police transported the suspect back to Laurel County Corrections Center.

Deputy Robinson charged the suspect with:

  • Speeding 26 miles or more over the speed limit
  • Fleeing or evading police – motor vehicle
  • Reckless driving
  • Wanton endangerment – second-degree -police officer is victim

Other Sheriff’s deputies assisting included: Laurel Sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy Rick Cloyd, Deputy Robert Reed, Detective Kyle Gray and Deputy Gary Mehler and his K-9 “Edge”.
