Laurel County, Ky. (Sept. 16, 2019) - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Tommy Houston along with KSP Trooper Steve Walker arrested Dustin K. Smith age 24 of London early Sunday morning September 15, 2019 at approximately 1:08 AM. The arrest occurred on KY 80 approximately 3 miles west of London after Deputy Houston was dispatched to an injury traffic crash.
Upon arrival at the scene investigators learned that apparently a red Kia Forte had struck a green Chevrolet pickup truck in the rear.
Witnesses there stated the red Kia Forte was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.
During the investigation of the crash the driver of the red Kia Forte was determined to be under the influence.
Dustin K. Smith was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
- Reckless driving
- Failure of nonowner operator to maintain required insurance – first offense
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
