FRANKFORT, KY (Monday, September 30, 2019) – On Monday, Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball's Office warned against a social media scam impersonating the Treasurer's Office.

"The Kentucky State Treasury will never contact via social media to request payment or bank account and credit card information," Treasurer Ball said. "The Treasury will also not request personal information, including passwords, birthdates, addresses, or social security numbers via social media."
The scam involved a Twitter account impersonating the Treasurer's Twitter account and requesting personal information in exchange for unclaimed property returns. The Kentucky State Treasury will never request personal information in this manner.
"Fraud prevention is a priority of mine as Treasurer and we take these scams very seriously at the Kentucky State Treasury," Ball said. "I am proud of Treasury Staff for working swiftly this morning to successfully have the impersonating account suspended."
