Former Clay County resident allegedly ate drugs after escaping Laurel Deputies

Laurel County, Ky. (October 28, 2019) - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Joey Robinson along with Deputy Taylor McDaniel and Deputy Robert Reed arrested Candice Delph age 34 of Corbin on Saturday morning October 26, 2019 at approximately 10:55 AM.

The arrest occurred on US 25 approximately 7 miles South of London after deputies observed this individual running north on US 25 in the roadway.

When deputies stopped this individual, she brought out a capped hypodermic needle and raised it above her head.

Deputies arrested and handcuffed the female subject and while retrieving an evidence bag from the patrol car, the suspect slipped a handcuff, running across US 25 and into the woods.

Following a lengthy foot chase this subject scuffled with deputies swinging the handcuffed hand before being taken into custody. This individual was transported to the Sheriff's office to be processed.

While being processed this individual stated that as she fled on foot earlier she had ate $350 worth's of ICE and wasn't feeling well. The suspect then became unresponsive and emergency services was notified.

Deputies attempted Narcan nasal spray however the female subject continued to be unresponsive and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London for medical attention before being lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Candice Delph was charged with:

  • Public Intoxication- Controlled substances
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Resisting arrest
  • Menacing
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Fleeing or evading police-1st degree - on foot
  • Escape 3rd degree
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Reliable sources tell ClayCoNews that this individual is a former resident of Curry Branch in Clay County, Ky.
