Laurel County, Ky. (December 15, 2019) - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Gary Mehler arrested Carl Douglas Madden age 39 of London on Friday night December 13, 2019 at approximately 9:31 PM.
The arrest occurred off Highway 490 in a business parking lot approximately 5 miles north of London after Deputy Mehler was dispatched to a complaint of a possible intoxicated male subject driving a Grand Marquis car that had earlier been at another business off Highway 490 and reportedly the driver was stumbling around outside the vehicle.
While Deputy Mehler was enroute to that location he met a blue colored Mercury Grand Marquis driving extremely slowly on Highway 490 southbound. Deputy Mehler made a turnaround and activated his emergency equipment conducting a traffic stop in a business parking lot near East Bernstadt.
The suspect vehicle nearly backed into Deputy Mehler and upon stopping Deputy Mehler noted that he detected the odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from the driver and observed an open container of alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. An investigation was conducted on the driver who was determined to be under the influence.
In addition, it was learned that the driver had an outstanding warrant of arrest.
Carl Douglas Madden was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – third offense
- Failure to wear seatbelts
- Possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited
- No registration receipt
- Improper equipment
In addition, this subject was wanted on a Clay District Court bench warrant of arrest charging:
- Failure to appear in court on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence
- Operating on suspended or revoked operator's license
- Possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited
- Numerous other violations
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
