Shooting incident in Laurel County leaves one person dead & 4 others arrested

Laurel County, Ky (December 22, 2019) - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Kyle Gray along with Sgt. Chris Edwards arrested four individuals early Sunday morning December 22, 2019 at approximately 4:03 AM.

The arrests occurred off Old KY 30 approximately 5 miles north of London as the Sheriff's office investigated a shooting which occurred at a residence there at 1:21 A.M.

When detectives and deputies arrived at the scene, they learned that a male subject there had been shot with a pistol in the chest. The victim was identified as Michael Bailey age 28 of East Bernstadt.

The victim was flown to UK Hospital Lexington for treatment, and was pronounced deceased there.

During the investigation at the scene investigators determined that numerous individuals there were convicted felons.

The arrested individuals were identified as:

Douglas Earl Bailey age 44 of East Bernstadt charged with:

  • Assault – first-degree – domestic violence
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Crystal Nicole Johnson age 38 of London charged with:

  • Possession of firearm by a convicted felon

James Brian Hart age 46 of East Bernstadt charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Dewain N. Bailey age 50 of East Bernstadt charged with:

  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Disorderly conduct – second-degree

This individual admitted taking Meth prior to the shooting complaint.

 All four arrested individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

An autopsy is scheduled in Frankfort for Monday.

Assisting at the scene was Deputy Tommy Houston, Deputy Josh Morgan, Deputy Joey Robinson and Kentucky State Police. Also assisting was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and  East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department.

Investigation is continuing. More charges are expected.
