LONDON, KY (November 23, 2020) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Travis Napier along with K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler and Lieut. Chris Edwards arrested James Anthony Duff age 39 of London on Saturday afternoon November 21, 2020 at approximately 3:21 PM.
The arrest occurred on Pine Hill Brock Road approximately 5 miles east of London after deputies were dispatched to a dispute at a residence there. Lieut. Chris Edwards was first to arrive at the residence and learned there had been an altercation at the residence where a male subject (Duff) had allegedly struck a female subject and taken her white colored 2011 Toyota Camry without her permission and left the scene.
Deputy Travis Napier and Sgt. Gary Mehler who were enroute to the scene met the suspect vehicle on the roadway on Pine Hill Brock Road and conducted a traffic stop determining that the driver was under the influence.
In addition, deputies found a glass pipe in the driver's possession.
It was also learned the driver had an outstanding warrant.
Deputies also noted that the driver's seven-year-old daughter was in the vehicle at the time. Social services was notified.
Deputies returned the Toyota Camry to its lawful owner.
The driver, James Anthony Duff was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
- Assault – 4th degree
- Wanton endangerment – second-degree
- Theft by unlawful taking – Auto – $500 or more but under $10,000
- No operator's license
- Possession of Drug paraphernalia
In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of:
- Possession of a Controlled substance
- Possession of Drug paraphernalia
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
