Texas Man Arrested after Allegedly Found in Parking Lot of a Business in Kentucky Passed Out Behind the Wheel with Lit Cigarette in Hand, Engine Running, Vehicle in Gear & Foot on Brake

LONDON, KY (January 18, 2021) Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Tommy Houston arrested John David Deboy age 49 of Dallas, Texas early Monday morning January 18, 2021 at approximately 2:56 AM.

The arrest occurred off American Greeting Card Road, approximately 10 miles South of London following an investigation conducted by deputies who had received information from Corbin City Police concerning an apparent intoxicated individual operating a white Ford Fiesta who had earlier been observed at a traffic light and when the light turned green the individual continued sitting there apparently passed out.

Deputies were summoned to the scene and located the suspect vehicle in a business parking lot with the driver behind the wheel with a lit cigarette in his hand passed out in the business parking lot there.

The driver allegedly had his engine running, vehicle in gear and foot on the brake.

Upon awakening the driver an investigation was conducted and the driver was determined to be under the influence.

John David Deboy was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – First offense
  • Failure to wear seatbelts
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Numerous other violations

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Assisting at the scene were for the Laurel County Sheriff's office: Deputy Tommy Houston, Deputy Landry Collett, and Deputy Hobie Daugherty.

Also assisting deputies was Corbin City Police.
