Positive Identification Made on Deceased Individual Discovered in a Creek in Laurel County, Kentucky

LONDON, KY (February 2, 2021) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting: An update on the deceased individual found off Locust Grove Road on Monday afternoon March 1, 2021.

A positive identification has been made on the deceased individual and next of kin have been notified.

The deceased individual is identified as Willis Benway age 54 of Locust Grove Rd., London. This individual had been reported as a missing person on January 19, 2021.

Investigation is continuing by Lieut. Chris Edwards.

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Lieut. Chris Edwards is conducting a death investigation regarding the discovery of a deceased individual off Locust Grove Road, approximately 8 miles southwest of London on Monday afternoon March 1, 2021 at approximately 1:55 PM.

Sheriff's investigators were called to the scene by an individual there reporting a deceased individual in a creek.

 

The Laurel County Coroner's office was called to the scene and authorities are attempting to identify the individual found there.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Assisting for the Laurel County Sheriff's office was: Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Detective Robert Reed, Detective Bryon Lawson, Deputy Hunter Disney, and Lieut. Chris Edwards who is the case officer.

Also assisting at the scene was the London- Laurel County Rescue Squad, and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County. Investigation is continuing by Lieut. Chris Edwards.
