PINEVILLE, KY - The Bell County Sheriff's Department is reporting that: On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, K-9 Deputy Adam Southern attempted a traffic stop on the driver of a green ATV in the Arjay/Pineville community after he was seen driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the ATV, later identified as 28-year-old Michael Tyler Baker of Kettle Island, fled for approximately a mile until he drove onto railroad tracks where the deputy lost contact.
Several hours later, during routine patrol, Deputy Southern came in contact with Baker on Knuckles Christopher Lane and he was taken into custody without further incident.
After confirming through Bell County Dispatch, Baker was found to have four outstanding warrants.
During a search incident to arrest, Baker was found in possession of:
- A small bag of a crystal-substance believed to be Methamphetamine
- A small bag of a substance believed to be Heroin
- A glass pipe with residue
- Several empty syringes
Michael Tyler Baker was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with:
- Possession of controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (Methamphetamine)
- Possession of controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense (Heroin)
- Fleeing or evading police – 1st degree (motor vehicle)
- Buying/possessing Drug paraphernalia
- Careless driving

He was also served with the four outstanding warrants and one for failure to comply with home incarceration.
K-9 Deputy Southern was assisted by Chaplain Allen Sanders, Chaplain Ricky Dorton, and Deputy Frank Foster.
