BARBOURVILLE, KY - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is reporting that: Shortly after 1:00 PM on Friday June 4, 2021 Knox County Deputies were dispatched to a report of domestic violence in Gray, KY. They were notified that the reported assailant was armed with a firearm.
While en route to the call, Knox 911 updated responding units that a male at the residence was armed with a handgun and shotgun chasing a victim around the home.
Upon arrival, deputies found 45-year-old Kenny L. Wyatt of Corbin at the front door armed with a pistol and shotgun.
Sheriff Mike Smith addressed Wyatt who turned and went back in the front door. Wyatt then returned to the doorway armed, but refused to come outside resulting in a brief stand-off with deputies surrounding the residence while the sheriff maintained contact with him.
Sheriff Smith was able to convince Wyatt to lay down the shotgun and eventually give up the handgun. He then went back inside the residence, but continued talking with the sheriff.
Deputies secured the firearms while Sheriff Smith was able to convince Wyatt to peacefully surrender and come outside to be placed in custody.
Deputies seized a loaded semi-auto handgun and loaded shotgun from him. Wyatt was then arrested and lodged in the Knox County Jail.
Kenny L. Wyatt was charged with:
- Assault - 4th degree domestic violence
- Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Two counts of wanton endangerment - 1st degree

One victim displayed minor injury but required no medical attention.
Working together on scene were Sheriff Mike Smith, Deputy Sam Mullins, Deputy Darian Abner, and arresting officer Deputy Steve Owens.
