Leslie County, Kentucky Student Awarded Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship

Brooklyn Phipps

Brooklyn Phipps of Hyden, KY has been awarded a 2021 Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship from Grace Health.

Brooklyn, the daughter of Michelle Adams and the late Robery Phipps, will receive a $3,000 scholarship award for her nursing career studies, which she will begin pursuing this fall at Morehead State University following her graduation from Leslie County High School.

Grace Health awards the Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship to a student in each of its six service areas in Southeastern Kentucky. The scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors pursuing a career in nursing or a medical related field. The students are chosen on a competitive basis of high scholarship, community service and leadership, and promise of future contributions preferably to the nursing profession.

Brooklyn is interested in the fields of psychiatric and critical care and has future goals of becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Brooklyn shared that she chose to go into nursing because she has a caring and nurturing personality and finds the science of the human body fascinating.

Brooklyn stated “In our area, many cannot afford the cost of higher education in order to become what they aspire to be. To me, the Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship gives me the opportunity to pursue my dream of helping and caring for others without the outstanding debt that I would have while in nursing school. I have a loving and caring personality, and this scholarship marks the beginning of my journey of becoming a nurse to let my personality flourish in my future career. With that being said, I would like to thank Grace Health for this scholarship and for helping me begin my path to success as a nurse in the making.”
