REPORT: Subject Told Female Victim "If You Call the Law, I Will Kill You”

LONDON, KY (July 7, 2021) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler along with Deputy Travis Napier, Deputy Brent France, and Deputy Brian France arrested Randy Joe Couch age 48 of East Bernstadt on Tuesday night July 6, 2021 at approximately 8:30 PM.

The arrest occurred off Laurel Branch Road, approximately 7 miles north of London after this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court warrant of arrest obtained by Sheriff's Sgt. Gary Mehler regarding an alleged incident which occurred on June 28, 2021 where allegedly this individual grabbed a female victim’s throat/neck area applying pressure and causing a redness and abrasion to her neck and throat area.

When the female victim broke free and attempted to escape this individual allegedly struck her in the right cheek area with the palm of his hand causing redness and swelling.

The female victim then fled outside where allegedly this individual threw a big rock at her striking her on the left knee causing an abrasion and bruising.

During the incident this subject told the female victim "if you call the law, I will kill you”.

Randy Joe Couch was charged with:

  • Strangulation – first-degree
  • Assault – 4th degree
  • Terroristic threatening – third-degree

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
