PADUCAH, KY – The Kentucky State Police are investigating a collision that claimed the lives of two people, one being the operator of a fleeing vehicle involved in a pursuit.

On Monday, August 2nd at around 1:45 P.M., the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office contacted Kentucky State Police, Post 1 and requested they investigate a collision at the intersection of US Highway 60 and Cairo Road involving a vehicle that was fleeing from deputies.

Members of the KSP Post 1 Reconstruction Team, along with members of the KSP Critical Incident Response Team, responded to the scene.

Initial investigation shows Lamont X. Young, 27 of De Soto, Illinois, operating a 2015 Honda Civic, was fleeing from a McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputy after they attempted to arrest Young.

As Young was traveling westbound on Cairo Road toward the intersection of US 60, he failed to stop at a traffic light and collided with a 2017 Ford Explorer, being driven by Deborah K. Burge, 60 of Cunningham, Kentucky, who was eastbound on US 60.

Burge was declared deceased at the scene by the McCracken County Coroner. Young was airlifted from the scene to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee for treatment of his injuries. He succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning.

The collision investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and the Kentucky State Police Post 1 Reconstruction Team.

US 60 near the 6 mile marker was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours.
