DEPUTIES RESPOND TO REPORT OF A DROWNING IN OREGON - VICTIM IDENTIFIED

TROUTDALE, OR (December 9, 2021) - The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is reporting that: On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, around 3 a.m., Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a woman had fallen into the Columbia River in the 5600 block of NE Sundial Road in Troutdale.

Shortly after arriving, deputies located the woman in the water, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead on scene. The woman has been identified as 26-year-old Olivia A. Payne.

After a brief investigation, deputies learned a business at the location was hosting a company party. During the event, Payne fell while trying to board a boat docked at the property and landed in the water.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined the incident to be an accident and ruled the death as a drowning.

Specially trained volunteers with TIPNW responded to provide emotional aid and practical support and resources to those who were attending the event.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office notified the U.S. Coast Guard and Oregon State Marine Board of the incident. They may perform additional follow-up as applicable.
