PINE TOP, KY – The Kentucky State Police is reporting that on Monday, January 31, 2022, at approximately KSP Post 13, Hazard, received a call in reference to a single-vehicle accident in the Pine Top community of Knott County.
Troopers responded to the scene and located a 1989 GMC pickup truck over the embankment.
The Initial investigation indicates that Donald Mullins, 55, of Pine Top, traveled with his passenger Portia Calhoun, 55, of Kite eastbound on KY-582.
Mullins’ truck veered off the roadway striking several trees before overturning for an unknown reason.
Mullins was extracted from the vehicle and airlifted to U.K Medical Center for treatment listed in critical condition. Calhoun was pronounced deceased on scene by the Knott County Coroner’s Office.
On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, was notified by U.K Medical Center that Donald Mullins had succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
No Seatbelts were in use at the time of collision.
This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Brandon Thomas.
