Clay County Extension is cooperating with several partners to provide a free Invasive Species Management Field Day at St. Ann’s Church on Town Branch Rd in Manchester, on Saturday, September 10th from 9 AM – noon. This workshop will be conducted in the field so participants can get experience identifying common invasive plants while also gaining familiarity with proper management techniques for these species. This field day will take place in the woods, so please dress appropriately. FREE & open to the public. Please call 598-2789 to register or for more information. Staying Healthy in the Fall with Diabetes will be on September 15th at 1Pm at the Clay County Extension Office. With the Holidays coming upon us soon, it's important to remember our health. Clay County Beekeepers Association will meet on September 15th at 6PM at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds. Whether you are an experienced beekeeper or a beginner wanting to learn, you are welcome to attend. Free Hay Sampling for Clay County Farmers: Forage sampling and analysis is the best way to determine the nutritional content and quality of hay. As part of the 2022 East Kentucky Annual Hay Contest, free hay/haylage sampling is available through the Clay County Cooperative Extension. The deadline to request testing is Friday, September 16th. Ration balancing will also be available for beef, equine and goat enterprises at no charge. Information from your hay analysis can reduce feed costs, increase animal performance, and provide information to improve forage stands. If you are interested in submitting hay/haylage samples for testing – either for the contest or just for your own use – please contact us at 606-598-2789 to schedule an appointment for sampling.
4-H Art Club will be on September 20th at 4PM at the Clay County Extension Office. The Art Club meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month. Each month we will focus on a new art project! FREE & open to all youth ages 8-18. You must call 598-2789 to register.
The Beginning Sewing program will be at the Excel Building on September 29, 5:00. "Are you looking to learn how to sew but have no clue where to begin? Everyone is welcome to come to Clay County Extension's Beginning Sewing Class! You will learn the basics of operating a sewing machine, how to measure and cut fabric, and make a simple drawstring bag. FREE & open to the public! Please call us at 598-2789 to register!"
