WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The Whitley County Sheriff Department is reporting that two arrests have been made in connection to the disappearance of 4 year-old Chloe Darnel. The orginial report regarding the disapearance of Brittany Slaughter and Chloe was posted on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 8:29 P.M..
A body, believed to be that of Chloe Darnel, has been recovered and sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy and positive identification.
Two suspects have been indentified and arrested.
The suspect duo is indentified as Brittany Slaughter, age 24, taken into custody on Friday, November 17, 2023 and Adam Hayes, age 34 taken into custody on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Both suspects are from Wlliamsburg, KY.

Brittany Slaughter is charged with:
- Murder
- Abuse of a Corpse
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
This individual was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

This is still an active investigation and further charges could be possible.
The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by multiple law-enforcement agencies during the investigation including the Williamsburg Police Department, the Corbin Police Department, the Kentucky State Police, and the federal ATF. We were also assisted by Woodbine Fire & Rescue, the Corbin Fire Department, and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies have located Brittany Slaughter, locally. Her status and welfare are reported as unharmed.
Chloe Darnel’s whereabouts and welfare remains in question. The investigation is on going.

Deputies and investigators have located and seized the vehicle in question and are actively investigating and pursuing multiple leads. Should anyone have information in reference to the whereabouts of Chloe and Brittany, please contact us immediately at 606-549-6017.
Update as of Wednesday, November 15th, 2023
We are also requesting the public's assistance with locating a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer, red in color. This vehicle reportedly has an attached black (mismatched color) front bumper. The last known licenses plate number was KY 291-RKD. The vehicle in question is not currently registered and the title was never transferred from the previous owner, there isn't a current registered owner, nor current licenses plate number.
Reportedly, Brittney Slaughter may have been operating this vehicle prior to her and 4 year old Chloe Darnel's disappearance.
Our Deputies and investigators are working multiple leads, however due to the nature of the on-going investigation, not all information can be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Brittney Slaughter and a juvenile identified as Chloe Darnel age 4 who Brittney has custody of, have both been reported missing from the Ova Lane / Canada Town Community of Whitley County.

At this time information is limited. Brittney allegedly has family members in Ohio. Initial reports indicate Chloe has not been seen since late September of this year. Deputies are continuing to track down leads at this time!
