Congressman Rogers of Kentucky Votes to Freeze Iranian Funds Released by Biden

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) voted for the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act, a bill passed by the House on Thursday, to effectively freeze $6 billion in Iranian funds that the Biden Administration released in exchange for American hostages in September.

"Iran continues to fund brutal terrorism around the world, and the United States should not be in the business of negotiating billions of dollars that could be used to do more harm, and inspire more hostage operations," said Congressman Rogers, Dean of the House. "Iran continues to support evil groups, like Hamas and Hezbollah, with total disregard for innocent lives. The terrorist attack on Israel magnified the need to freeze these funds. We must continue to stand against all forms of tyranny, and this bill ensures proper sanctions are restored to protect our allies."

One month after the Biden Administration waived sanctions for the money transfer, Iran-backed Hamas terrorists brutally murdered more than 1,300 people in Israel, kidnapping 130 others, creating another hostage situation.

The legislation imposes immediate, mandatory sanctions on any financial institution that attempts to engage in transactions with the $6 billion currently held in Qatar banks, effectively freezing the funds.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
