SOMERSET, KY - Sheriff Bobby Jones reports a record year for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division for 2023. “It is unfortunate to call this a record year, when you’re talking about a large quantity of drugs in your community” said Jones “but removing these drugs off of the street have likely saved lives or kept drugs out of the hands of a would be first time user.”
The Sheriff's Narcotics Division is comprised of a three-man team whose chief purpose is to investigate and prosecute individuals who bring illegal substances into our community. All three detectives are also assigned to federal task forces, allowing our detectives the opportunity to remove the source of the drugs, before they enter Pulaski County.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division seized 26,372.59 grams (58.86 lb.) of Methamphetamine in 2023. Methamphetamine is the most common narcotic sold in Pulaski County and is typically sold on the street in gram quantity. If sold on the street, the value of this amount of Methamphetamine would have an estimated street value of $1,318,644.00.
The Narcotics Division also seized 857.36 (1.91 lb.) of Heroin/Fentanyl. Fentanyl has seen a rise in our community over the last several years due to the difficulty in users to acquire pills such as Oxycodone.
Fentanyl accounts for the vast majority of overdoses in drug users. When sold on the street, Fentanyl can be sold in 1/10th gram quantities, making the amount seized 8,573 doses of Fentanyl. The estimated street value of the seized Fentanyl is $171.460.
The Narcotics Division seized 42.94 grams of Cocaine, Marijuana, and various pills.
During 2023, the Narcotics Division made or assisted in over 130 arrests. The division indicted 77 cases, between state and federal courts.
“The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to keep as many drugs off of our streets as we possibly can” stated Sheriff Bobby Jones. “The numbers presented here only reflect the Narcotics Division, not the entire agency.”
“Although we have a division specifically designated to Narcotics, our Patrol Division has been extremely successful in this endeavor as well” continued Jones. “I promised truth and transparency during my campaign and the increase in manpower in the Narcotics Division along with our federal partnerships, has proven to pay off already” stated Jones.
