FRANKFORT, KY (Jan. 30, 2024) – Attorney General Russell Coleman announced action by the Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection resulted in an immediate order to cease cremations at the Cloverport Funeral Home in Breckinridge County.
On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the Attorney General’s Office received information that led to an investigation of Cloverport Funeral Home revealing that the facility had failed to register to operate a crematory and was providing cremation services without a license in violation of Kentucky law.
The Attorney General’s Office also confirmed the presence of an unlicensed cremation chamber, known as a retort, at the Cloverport Funeral Home’s location. The Cloverport City Police assisted in the investigation.
Since April 2023, Cloverport Funeral Home has allegedly performed over 300 cremations.
The Office’s swift actions secured a Temporary Restraining Order, preventing the unregistered crematory from harming Kentucky families further at such a difficult time of bereavement.
This matter was handled by the Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection by Deputy Executive Director of Consumer Protection Jonathan Farmer, Special Attorney Matthew Cocanougher and Registrations Branch Manager Tiffany Durham.
