FRANKFORT, KY – Attorney General Russell Coleman and Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 21st Judicial District Ashton McKenzie have announced that joint action by their offices led to the sentencing of Matthew Stevens, 38, of Rowan County for the possession of a firearm and charges related to drug possession.
Matthew Stevens pleaded guilty to:
- One count of Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Class D Felony)
- Two counts of Possession of Controlled Substance, First Degree (Class D Felony)
- One count of Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
- One count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor)
“This sentencing is great news and a positive step to keeping the Rowan County families safe,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney McKenzie. “Attorney General Coleman and his office were a force-multiplier in this case, ensuring that we can protect this community from violent criminals and deadly drugs. I look forward to our continued work with their team.”

Stevens is currently serving a 10 year sentence pursuant to guilty pleas in Rowan County cases.
The case was investigated by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department. Commonwealth’s Attorney Ashton McKenzie and Eric Finke of the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
