LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Bobby Roberts arrested Johnny Claypool age 48 of Elm St., Cynthiana, KY.
The arrest occurred early Monday morning April 15, 2024 at approximately 1:37 AM. behind a business off South. Laurel Rd., approximately 3 miles South of London after Deputy Roberts attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Mitsubishi Montero that had no registration plate on it.
When Deputy Roberts activated his emergency equipment the vehicle failed to stop.
Deputy Roberts continued to pursue the vehicle which traveled nearly a mile before turning off at a business and circling behind where the driver fled on foot over a grassy hill.
Following a brief struggle with Deputy Roberts, the driver was taken into custody.
This individual was found to be in possession of a clear crystal substance believed to be Methamphetamine.
A check on the vehicle determined that the tags were expired from 2010.
The vehicle failed to stop traveling almost a mile before turning off at a business where the driver fled on foot.
Johnny Claypool was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
- Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle
- Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
- Resisting arrest
- No registration plates
- Failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense
- Operating on suspended or revoked operator's license
- Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
In addition, this subject was charged on two Scott County probation violation warrants and a warrant from Harrison County for nonpayment of court costs fees or fines.
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
