Williamsburg, KY – The online graduate program list at University of the Cumberlands continues to grow as the school adds a new public administration concentration to several of its graduate program options.
Public administration is now available as a concentration in the university’s MBA, DBA or PhD in business, PhD in Leadership Studies, and Doctor of Educational Leadership (EdD) programs. Students can pursue this concentration entirely online or in the university’s executive program formatting.
The public administration degree is designed to equip students with practical knowledge in the management and administration of public sector organizations, with an emphasis on public administration and public enterprise systems. In short, the goal is to teach students how to effectively serve in executive or managerial roles within the public sector. Better knowledge and skills can produce better leadership, and better leadership offers businesses and organizations a chance to guide their people well.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, those serving in managerial roles such as a medical and health service manager, top business executive, or administrative services and facilities manager earn between $50 - $60 per hour, with some chief executives making $124 per hour.
The core courses of the concentration include classes about the fundamentals of public administration, emergency management and continuity of operations, and public sector budgeting, while elective courses include options to study about non-profit management, strategic organizational design, and healthcare policy and economics.
By the program’s completion, in addition to the knowledge and skills gained through the rest of the program, the public administration concentration will have taught students how to assess the structure, function, and performance of public enterprises, as well as how to develop – and, just as important, implement – strategic, sustainable objectives that align with public service goals.
