MOUNT VERNON, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) reports that on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at approximately 5:30 PM, KSP Post 11, London was notified of a two vehicle collision on Highway 70 in Rockcastle County.
The collision resulted in one person receiving fatal injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Charles E. Northern, 59 years old of Mt. Vernon, KY, was traveling westbound on KY Highway 70 when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the path of a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse. The Traverse was operated by Sandra L, Whitaker 56 years old of Mt. Vernon, KY.
As a result of the collision, Sandra Whitaker suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Rockcastle County Coroner at the scene.
Mr. Northern was transported from the scene and flown by helicopter to Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington and treated for non-life-threating injuries.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 11 Trooper Austin Cornett. He was assisted at the scene by Post 11 Personnel, Rockcastle Sheriff’s Office, Rockcastle EMS, Brodhead Fire Department, Western Rockcastle Fire Department, and the Rockcastle County Coroner.
