HELBY GAP, KY– The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Is reporting that KSP Post 9, Pikeville received a call on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, regarding a shooting in the Shelby Gap community of Pike County.
KSP troopers and investigators responded to a residence on Kelly Mountain Road where they discovered two subjects had been shot.
The initial investigation revealed a husband and wife sustained fatal gunshot injuries near their home and were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office.
They were identified as Rickie Potter, 57 years old, and Sabrina Potter, 51 years old, both of Shelby Gap, KY.
The ongoing investigation indicates Rickie Potter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and KSP is not actively searching for any suspects at the time.
Detective Joseph Coleman is leading the investigation. He was assisted on scene by KSP personnel and Lifeguard Ambulance Service.
