Temporarily waives motor carrier restrictions for vehicles traveling to affected areas to restore power, remove debris
FRANKFORT, KY – Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray has signed an official order to temporarily suspend certain restrictions for motor carrier drivers engaged in emergency response efforts to affected areas in Florida where severe, damaging weather is expected to arrive this weekend.
“Team Kentucky has weathered its fair share of severe weather events and this official order is one way we can support a fellow state to ensure critical response efforts aren’t delayed for those involved in restoring power, removing debris, and transporting essential goods and agricultural products to affected areas,” Secretary Gray said.
The order is effective through 12:01 a.m. EST on Aug. 16, 2024. It temporarily relieves commercial drivers from maximum driving times and weigh station stops if transporting approved relief supplies or emergency response efforts, like power restoration.
To ensure the safety of the traveling public, carriers must comply with safety requirements and have a copy of the order in the truck cab if operating under the authority of the official order.
