LONDON, KY - London City Police Chief Jerry Hollon is reporting that on Saturday, August 10, 2024 officers from the London Police Department arrested a murder suspect after the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office requested their help at approximately 12:30 pm, due to the suspect being possibly enroute to the London area.
Officers from the London Police Department were notified upon arrival that the murder suspect, identified as Michael Landon Edwards, age 41, of Clay County, had carjacked the victim. In doing so the victim had attempted to stop Edwards and was dragged some distance, before falling and being run over by Edwards, ultimately leading to her death. Officers were also informed that Edwards had also attempted an apparent home invasion in which he pointed a firearm at the homeowner before fleeing into the woods.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Troy Truett and Officer Hobie Daugherty of the London Police Department spotted the murder suspect in a ravine located a field near the Laurel/Jackson County line and gave chase, observing that the suspect was in possession of a firearm.
Eventually Sgt. Truett and Officer Daugherty were able to subdue the suspect after a brief struggle. Sgt. Truett and Officer Daugherty were able to gain control over Edwards and place him under arrest and recover a handgun from his person.
Sgt. Truett and Officer Daugherty was assisted in the arrest by Officer John Root with Manchester PD, K9 Officer Dylan Messer, Officer Jordan Childers, Officer Andrew Lawson, and Officer Jamie Etherton of the London Police Department also assisted on scene.
Edwards was then relinquished over to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and charged with numerous charges including but not limited to Murder and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun.
Michael Edwards is lodged in the Jackson County Detention Center on $1,000,000.00 Cash bond. The following charges are listed.
