BARBOURVILLE, KY - The Knox County, Ky. Sheriff's Department is reporting that on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith and deputies responded to a stolen vehicle being spotted at the Crossroads Market on U.S. 25 E in Gray.
The vehicle, a white 2017 Kia sedan had been reported stolen from a residence on KY 1803 in Barbourville earlier that morning at approximately 5:45 am.
When the driver of the vehicle, identified as 37-year-old David Boggs of Corbin, KY was confronted at the Crossroads Market, he fled on foot. When deputies checked the vehicle they observed a bag containing suspected stolen mail belonging to several different people.
Sheriff Smith and the deputies continued to search the area for Boggs.
While still in the area, they were notified that he had attempted to break into a residence on KY 233 near the saw mill in Gray. When they arrived at the residence, they observed Boggs run into the woods. After a foot pursuit, Boggs was captured and transported to the Knox County Detention Center.
David Boggs was charged with:
- Fleeing or Evading Police-3rd Degree
- Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition/Auto
- Theft of Mail Matter
- Resisting Arrest and Menacing
David Boggs was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
