GEORGETOWN, KY - My last message as your Sheriff: I woke up today and the gravity of the situation really hit me: today is the last day I will serve Scott County, the community I love, as Sheriff.
As many of you know, nearly a year ago I elected to entertain the idea of pursuing a new path in life by pursuing the 62nd District House seat in Scott County.
Due to Kentucky Public Pension Authority policy, I was advised to retire to assure no impact on my earned benefits from my years of service in law enforcement. Walking away from my lifelong dream was an incredibly tough decision to make but one I ultimately stand by. If we are humble and honest with ourselves, there comes a point in our lives and careers where passing the baton can make sense.
After 14 years in office as your Sheriff I felt like I had seen-through my goal of making our agency more modernized, efficient, effective and as well respected as any other in the state. I can confidently say that these things, among many others, are emphatically true. I could brag for hours the accomplishments our deputies and staff have made but the beautiful part about nearly all of it was nobody was doing it to be recognized or to serve themselves. It was for the betterment of Scott County and that’s something I’ll always be proud of!
A significant factor in the timing of this decision was I know I have a command staff, deputies, and office staff currently in place I have the utmost confidence in. They will undoubtedly lead this office on the same flourishing trajectory we have been on and to newer, loftier heights.
These circumstances offered a unique opportunity in that those that worked closely to and within our office got to voice their opinions about a potentially appointed Sheriff as my replacement. Many in our staff and others in local government gave a resounding voice of support for your newly appointed Sheriff, Jeremy Nettles. I trust and believe in his integrity and capability to the fullest or I would not have
left him to serve as your Sheriff. I encourage you to support him and our office just as you always have me.
To the thousands of Scott Countians who have supported me over the years, thank you!
To my family and friends who have been with me every step of this journey, thank you!
To my staff, the time I have spent serving with you incredible professionals has been an absolute honor. I can’t thank you all enough for the sacrifices you make every day!
To all of you, thank you for standing by me through the triumphs and the tears. This experience was surreal and my life has been forever enriched by your support!
With gratitude and love,
Tony
