Fatal Early Morning Crash on Interstate 495 in Prince George’s County, Maryland claims life of a Herndon, VA Person

OXON HILL, MD – Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Prince George’s County early Friday morning.

MSP troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to the crash about 3:45 a.m. Friday morning December 6, 2024 on northbound Interstate 495 near the Anacostia Freeway.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Jeep Compass crashed with the rear trailer of a tractor-trailer parked on the left shoulder. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services. The tractor-trailer driver declined medical treatment.

The identity of the deceased was not immediately released pending next of kin notification. However, an MSP update was issued and the deceased has been identified as Joshua David Meyer, 40, of Herndon, Virginia.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures, which lasted for several hours. The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division conducted a post-crash inspection of the tractor-trailer.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
