FRANKFORT, Ky. – 2013 will give cyclists in Kentucky a new challenge – the Kentucky Century Challenge.
The Kentucky Century Challenge brings together four of the most popular cycling events in Kentucky: The Redbud Ride in London, the Horsey Hundred in Georgetown, the Preservation Pedal in Frankfort and the Old Kentucky Home Tour in Louisville.
Each of these rides offers a “century ride” option of 100 miles. To complete the Kentucky Century Challenge, riders must complete three of the four century rides. Successful riders will receive a special edition Kentucky Century Challenge jersey designed by John Mahorney of JEM Creative.
These rides are organized and sponsored by a dedicated group of cyclists and cycling advocates. Here are details on each ride:
- Downtown London and the London-Laurel County Tourism Commission put on the Redbud Ride, which has been named a candidate for Active.com’s “Best of” award. This year’s event is slated for the weekend of April 13.
- Every Memorial Day Weekend, the Bluegrass Cycling Club hosts the Horsey Hundred in Georgetown and the surrounding area. This year will mark the 36th annual Horsey Hundred.
- Preservation Kentucky, a nonprofit statewide preservation organization, is responsible for the Preservation Pedal. Each year the location of the Preservation Pedal changes, with the 2013 ride headquartered in Frankfort and surrounding Franklin County on June 22.
- The Louisville Bicycle Club brings cyclists the Old Kentucky Home Tour. The OKHT, Sept. 7-8, travels from Louisville to Bardstown and 2013 will also mark its 36th annual ride.

Preview the Century Challenge jersey on the registration page. Riders may also register in person at the Redbud Ride and the Horsey Hundred. To enter the Kentucky Century Challenge, riders must enter by the Horsey Hundred in order to complete three events.
