PORTLAND, OR - This morning just after 9:00 AM Portland Firefighters were called to a warehouse fire on the 6100 block of NE Lombard St. Arriving crews found heavy smoke billowing from a warehouse. Firefighters moved into the structure to locate the fire and to search for any trapped occupants.
After talking to employees crews were able to determine that everyone was accounted for and that no one was injured. Locating the fire however, proved more difficult.
This fire was burning in the center of the warehouse which was filled with material and equipment. Crews described interior conditions as very hot with little to no visibility. Fire command called a second and eventually a third alarm to ensure that adequate resources were available to fight this fire. Firefighters eventually located and began working to extinguish this stubborn fire.
While this was happening crews on the roof of the structure were working to cut a hole to ventilate the the toxic and flammable smoke. Other crews were simultaneously working to open exterior doors and windows. These actions (when done correctly) improve interior conditions so that crews can locate additional fire and so that they can work safely.
The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported in association with it. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of this fire.
