RPK ISSUES STATEMENT AFTER ATTORNEY GENERAL REJECTS BESHEAR ADMIN’S ASSERTION THAT TAXPAYERS SHOULD FUND INMATES' GENDER-TRANSITION SURGERIES

FRANKFORT, KY (Dec. 19, 2024)—The Republican Party of Kentucky (RPK) Communications Director Andy Westberry issued the following statement after the release of an opinion from the Attorney General today, rejecting the Beshear administration's assertion that Kentucky taxpayers should be forced to subsidize incarcerated criminals' gender-transition surgeries.

“Attorney General Coleman is right—Kentucky taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to subsidize gender-transition surgeries for incarcerated criminals. It’s just common sense.

"Gov. Andy Beshear can’t escape responsibility for supporting these procedures for criminals, as it was his administration that promulgated the regulation. As governor, he is responsible for policies and regulations that are put in place by his Administration. He’s either leading this administration or he’s not.”
