CORBIN, KY MAN ARRESTED AFTER LONDON PD LOCATE, SEIZE DRUGS AND CASH DURING TRAFFIC STOP

LONDON, KY - London Police Chief Jerry Hollon is reporting that Officer Jordan Childers along with the LPD Special Investigation Unit arrested Derek Rains, age 30 of Corbin, KY.

Officer Childers was observing traffic when he observed a vehicle driving carelessly and initiated a traffic stop. As the vehicle slowed Officer Childers observed the occupant attempting to dispose of contraband from the vehicle. Officer Childers began giving Rains verbal commands to exit the vehicle which he refused to follow. After a brief struggle, Rains was taken into custody. Officers Childers and other officers located a large amount of currency, suspected Fentanyl, over one pound of suspected methamphetamine, and other items associated with trafficking narcotics.

Officer Childers is the investigating officer and was assisted on scene by Detective Wes Wolfe, Detective Landry Collett, Detective Josh Morgan, Sgt. John Inman, Sgt. Dylan Messer and Officer Kendric Smith.

Rains was charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (>or= 2 Grams Methamphetamine), Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Offense (Fentanyl), Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (Drug Unspecified), Tampering with Physical Evidence, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All arrests are preliminary investigations. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
