LOUISVILLE, KY (June 11, 2020) — Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana is honored to have UPS join in the fight to END EPILEPSY through the nationwide Walk to END EPILEPSY initiative benefiting Kentucky and southern Indiana.
“UPS strives to be a good corporate citizen and is honored to be a partner of the Walk to END EPILEPSY,” said Justin Heckel, UPS Public Affairs. “Among our 32,000 UPS employees in Kentucky, statistically speaking, 1,230 will be diagnosed with epilepsy at some point in their life – this is a daunting number.”
Also joining the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana in this fight is the nationwide sponsors: Greenwich Biosciences, Eisai, and Neurelis, along with other presenting sponsors: Air Hydro Power and UK Healthcare Kentucky Neuroscience Institute.
“We are extremely grateful for each of our partnering sponsors, as their support is instrumental in our work to improve and save lives,” said Deb McGrath, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana.
The Foundation has been monitoring the evolving situation surrounding COVID-19 and has made the difficult decision to forego our in-person Walk to END EPILEPSY® events. In the interest of protecting the health and safety of participants, volunteers and employees, the Foundation will instead host virtual walks. The virtual events will be held in Lexington, Louisville, and Paducah.
“Even in times like this, seizures haven’t stopped...and neither has the fight to End Epilepsy,” said McGrath. “Which is why we’re hopeful that everyone who planned to attend our Walk in person will join us in full force for our virtual Walk to END EPILEPSY to benefit Kentucky and southern Indiana and to continue to build awareness and take action together for our cause.”
The virtual walks will allow everyone to safely participate by strolling in their own neighborhood, treadmill, or wherever they choose, in support to raise funds for epilepsy research. Foundation staff will be on-site at each location from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and invite virtual walkers who have pre-registered to drive-by and pick up their preordered Walk to END EPILEPSY t-shirt. For those who wish to stay at home, the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana will broadcast on Facebook Live from 10-11 a.m. on each designated date to recognize and thank supporters participating in the virtual walks.

About Epilepsy
According to the World Health Organization, epilepsy is the most common serious brain disorder worldwide with no age, racial, social class, national or geographic boundaries. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) estimates that 3.4 million people in the United States are affected by epilepsy. It is the underlying tendency of the brain to produce seizures which are sudden abnormal bursts of electrical energy that disrupt brain functions.
