LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: A phone scam has surfaced in Laurel County where the caller is identifying himself as a Sheriff's Deputy and the caller ID is reflecting the Sheriff's office phone number.
Note: Criminals can use an app and duplicate any number. This technique is widely known as spoofing.
The caller is advising citizens to pay $3000 – No reason is given.
This is a scam to steal money from unsuspecting citizens. Do not send money. Report this scam.
The Laurel County Sheriff's Office will never call citizens on the telephone demanding money.
