MANCHESTER, KY - The Clay County Sheriff's Office is reporting that HWY U.S. 421 has been reopened after a specialized heavy haul tractor-trailer overturned Sunday morning, shutting down the highway.
Kentucky Utilities responded along with The Clay County Sheriff's Office, Lockards Creek Fire Department and other emergency agencies after the mishap occurred on South U.S. 421 next to the railroad crossing near Paces Creek Road, when a specialized heavy haul tractor-trailer transporting an oversized load in/through Clay County overturned.
As of this publishing, no other details regarding the incident other than this Facebook post dated; Sunday March 30, 2025, (both notifications in same post) "South 421 next to Paces Creek Road will be shut down for a period of time due to an overturned tractor trailer." and "**UPDATE: Roadway is now open**, have been made available to ClayCoNews. We will update when and if more information is made available to us.
Allen's Towing and Recovery responded to remove the overturned vehicle and its cargo to a safe location.

What is considered a heavy load:
- Cargo that is wider than 8.6 feet, taller than 13.6 feet, and longer than 53 feet.
- Anything more than 80,000 pounds in gross weight.
