KSP Update on Fatal Collision in Lyon County Resulting in Closure of I-24 in KY

EDDYVILLE, KY (April 24, 2025) - *UPDATE* Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 continues an investigation into a single vehicle collision that occurred near the 47 mile marker of I-24 westbound shortly before 7:30 am CT. All lanes of I-24 have been reopened.

The initial investigation indicates that a 2014 Ford Mustang, operated by Landon C. Ray, 19 years old of Clinton, KY, was traveling westbound on I-24. Mr. Ray lost control of the vehicle, exiting the roadway on the right side, colliding with trees and overturning. Mr. Ray was not wearing his seat belt. Mr. Ray was transported by AirEvac to a Paducah area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. 

KSP was assisted on scene by the Eddyville Fire Department, Lyon County EMS, AirEvac, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of I-24 have been reopened. One westbound lane remains closed. Additional details will be forthcoming.

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (April 24, 2025) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 troopers are on scene of a single vehicle collision near the 47 mile marker of I-24 westbound. In order to safely land a medical helicopter, all lanes of I-24 in both directions will be closed. The roadway is expected to remain closed for approximately 30 minutes.
