SHEPERDSVILLE, KY (June 29, 2025) – Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 4, received a call from the Pioneer Village Police Department just before 4:30 a.m. EDT Sunday morning, requesting that the KSP investigate a fatal shooting that had occurred at a residence on the 3000 block of Pioneer Trail.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Aaron Welker, 33, of Shepherdsville, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. KSP detectives interviewed Kent Russell, 34, also of Shepherdsville, who was at the scene when officers arrived. Mr. Russell was later arrested and transported to the Bullitt County Detention Center.
Kent Russell was charged with:
- Murder
This individual was lodged in the Bullitt County Detention Center.

The Bullitt County Coroner's Office transported the victim's body to the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville, where an autopsy will be performed Monday morning.
KSP was assisted at the scene by the Pioneer Village Police Dept., Bullitt Co. EMS and the Bullitt Co. Coroner's Office. The investigation remains ongoing by KSP Post 4 Det. Kevin Dreisbach.
