Trucks were out through the night preparing roads for wintry weather
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 6, 2014) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) road crews were out Sunday and through the night preparing roads for the arctic blast that blew across the Commonwealth.
As temperatures dropped by nearly 50 degrees in some areas Sunday, and rain turned to snow, crews were out treating roads.
“Working in bitter cold presents obvious challenges, but our maintenance crews battle through frigid temperatures to keep roadways as clear as possible,” KYTC Secretary Mike Hancock said.
This morning crews were continuing to patrol all counties and spot treat roads for snow and ice. Snow was still falling in some counties while almost all areas of the state were reporting patches of ice on the roads as temperatures across the state ranged from minus -1 to 14 degrees.
As the temperatures continue to dip, salt becomes less effective on roads. Drivers are asked to use caution while out and be mindful of possible ice.
