Crews given more flexibility to repair downed lines, restore power after winter storm
FRANKFORT, Ky. –In light of this week’s severe winter storm, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has waived certain highway restrictions for out-of-state utility vehicles travelling nationally to areas with widespread power outages.
Secretary Mike Hancock has issued the emergency declaration that provides temporary regulatory relief for crews heading to the affected locations.
“Lifting these restrictions allows crews to work more expeditiously in restoring power to homes and businesses across the nation,” said Secretary Hancock.
The order exempts a driver’s hours of service limitation, suspends registration requirements and waives permit fees for overweight/overdimensional vehicles. Drivers will also not be required to stop at weigh stations. All other safety requirements will remain in effect for drivers.
The declaration expires on March 8.
