Programs offered by the Clay County Extension Office for June 2016


♦We are presenting (Family Focus) Thrill of the Grill with Promise Neighborhood on June 7th, 9th & 16th at 5:30 pm at the Extension Office.  This program FREE and open to adults and families.  Learn the basics of grilling and food safety.  You MUST call 598-2789 to register.

♦Sewing Days will be June 15th and 22nd from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Extension Office. We will be making a pillow and eyeglass case.  The experienced and novice sewer both will be able to attend.  Our first day, you will be making a pillow that you can use inside or outside your home depending on the fabric you choose.  The second day, you will be making an eyeglass case for sunglasses or reading glasses.  This is a wonderful way to express your personality.  Please bring basic sewing supplies for both days and fabric you want to use with matching thread.  If you have a portable sewing machine, please bring also.  We do have a few machines you can use.  You must call 598-2789 to register.

♦The Clay County Community Farmers Market is Manchester’s connection for locally-grown produce & fruits, meats, jams & jellies, baked goods and crafts.  Come by and see what we have to offer!  Join us on Saturday June 18th for opening day from 9:00 am—1:00 pm at the Manchester B School located on US 421 right below the Manchester EKU campus, between Britton Funeral Home and Logos Engineering.  Farmers Market will be open each Saturday from 9 am – 1:00 pm.  Know someone that might be interested in selling at the market this year? ♦The Clay County 4-H Teen Club will meet on June 21st at the Rain Garden at Rawlings & Stinson Park at 5:00 pm.

♦Hay Equipment Demonstration will be on Wednesday, June 22nd from 4-7:00 pm at Reuben Bennett's Farm (across from the Fogertown Christian Alliance Church - follow UK signs) off Shib Branch Road.    You will get to view the latest hay bales, tractors, lawnmowers and other equipment that Meade Tractor in London has to offer. Come join us for a time of learning and eating!  Sponsored by Meade Tractor, London, KY.

♦Canning & Freezing Program - Are you interested in learning how to preserve your garden produce so there will be no waste?  It tastes good later in the season and you have a feeling of accomplishment for your work!  Two programs are scheduled:  June 22nd at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office and on June 23rd Lora will be in Red Bird at the Cramer Building at 6:00 pm.  You must call to register at 598-2789.

♦Photography Camp will be held again this year!  Dates are July 7th, 11th, 14th & 21st at 11:00 am.  We will be meeting at the Extension Office on all dates.  On July 7th, parents will need to transport their kids to Rawlings & Stinson Park at 12:30 pm to take pictures. If you have your own camera, you can bring it.  If you don't have a camera, one will be provided to use.  Photography Camp is FREE & open to all youth in 3rd - 12th grades are invited to attend. You MUST call to register at 598-2789 by July 5th.  A limited number of spots are available.  Participants will have opportunities to exhibit outstanding photography at the Kentucky State Fair 4-H Exhibit, Extension Week Exhibits and the Clay County Homemakers Photography Show.
