KSP Vehicle Enforcement Officer has Physical Altercation


Middlesboro, Ky. - On Tuesday August 2nd 2016 around 12:00 noon, Officer Tyler Teaney with KSP-Vehicle Enforcement attempted to stop a 2007 Kawasaki dirt bike on KY74 (Cumberland Avenue) in Middlesboro, Kentucky.

Upon activating all emergency lights and siren, the dirt bike took off at a high rate of speed leading Teaney on a short pursuit down KY2396 and then to KY441 where the suspect lost control, wrecking the dirt bike.

After a brief altercation, deployment of Taser, and burst of pepper spray, Officers arrested 45 year old Stephen Hobbs of Middlesboro. Both Hobbs and Officer Teaney were treated on scene for minor injuries sustained from the incident. Hobbs was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center.

Charges on Hobbs include: Operating ATV on Roadway, Operating ATV without Headgear, No Registration Plates, Fleeing or Evading Police, Menacing, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Mischief 3rd.

Assisting on Scene: KSP/CVE Officers, KSP Trooper Josh Messer, Middlesboro Police and Middlesboro EMS. Officer Teaney continues the investigation
