LSO deputies locate and arrest a wanted fugitive


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Shawn Jackson along with Deputy Tommy Houston and Sgt. Larry Parrott arrested Austin Johnson age 37 of East Laurel Rd., London early Thursday morning August 25, 2016 at approximately 12:16 AM.

The arrest occurred off East Laurel Rd., approximately 3 miles east of London after deputies located a wanted fugitive in a garage there. This subject resisted arrest and had to be escorted to the police cruiser. This subject began yelling, cursing, and causing a disturbance in a neighborhood.

Deputies found this subject in possession of a small plastic baggie of suspected crystal meth hidden inside the back of a cell phone – this subject stated it was crystal meth.

Upon arrival at the Sheriff's office this subject became combative attempting to fight and kick deputies. While being escorted into the booking area, this subject kicked Sgt. Parrott with steel toed boots and continued to kick him causing swelling and bruising.

This subject stated he had been doing meth, drinking, and had something in his system that he didn't know for sure but possibly Flakka.

Austin Johnson was charged with public intoxication – controlled substances; disorderly conduct – second degree; resisting arrest; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense and assault – fourth degree.

In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest on charges of failure to appear in court regarding charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, reckless driving, driving on DUI suspended license, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and numerous other violations.

Austin Johnson was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
