June 22, 1954 - May 30, 2025
Raymond Hubbard was born June 22, 1954 to Ray Hubbard and June Smith Hubbard. He grew up on Otter Creek with his brothers Calvin, Wayne, Vernon, Randy and Alan. Raymond was an example of Christ-like love and character. He often said "if you don't have your word, you don't have anything".
Raymond loved and served God for more than 40 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth worker and Trustee. He was a faithful member of the Oneida Community Church. He loved his church, his pastor and his church family. The prayers of the Oneida Community Church family and friends and the power of God brought him through many things and times that survival is unexplainable.
Raymond was a retired surface miner and made many life long friends during his work years. The stories he told of his work buddies brought laughter years after they were over. His long time riding buddy 'shoe' was the main character in a lot of those stories.
Raymond loved all kids and was, a lot of times, the biggest kid at the party. He worked with Clay County Little League for years, either coaching or working on the facilities. Some of his favorite times was traveling with his softball and basketball families. He often talked about how much he missed it and the friends that he made during that time. He was 'poppy' to a lot more than just his girls.
Raymond loved his family above all earthly things and they loved him right back. He and Wayne spent most Mondays together in a drs office. Raymond always went above and beyond, sacrificing his wants and needs to give to his family. He took on roles and responsibilities that he didn't have to and was the best at it.
He spent holidays cooking and fussing with his mother-in-law, Aileen. They both knew their way was the best way and neither of them were ever wrong. If they were, they never admitted it.
Raymond and Glenda spent over 30 years laughing and adventuring, either in an old car, in the hills with the best riding buddies or on a Jeep ride, usually getting lost on the journey. The last one being 4 days ago when he gave directions to Pineville and ended up in Harlan asking a stranger in a Family Dollar parking lot where they were.
Raymond's best days of all were those spent with his girls: Erica Adams, Sherry Woods, Ashley Couch, Hailey Napier, Lacey Woods, Emery Gilbert, Leliana Adams, and Sloan Adams. He always referred to any combination of them as 'my girls'. He said any day spent with his girls was a good day. And any day spent with him was a good day for 'his girls'.
Visitation will be held at Britton Funeral Home on Monday, June 1, 2025 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Raymond's celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2025 at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel, with his pastor, Todd Hicks, and special friend and cousin, Rodney Cobb, officiating. Burial to follow at the Hubbard Family Cemetery on Goose Rock.
