Ruby Banks-Hoskins-Pennington departed this life peacefully on August 22nd, 2013, being 91 years 2 months and 4 days old. She passed away at the Laurel Creek Health Care Center.
Ruby was born June 18th, 1922. Ruby was a long time resident of the Sexton's Creek area where she resided at her home on Cool Springs Road. Ruby was a member of the Brushy Branch Baptist Church.
She was an independant woman with many abilities. she was always working in her garden, taking care of her flowers and just doing the things that made her happy. Everyone who came in contact with Ruby could feel her zest for life. Even as she got older she was always on the go; visiting, traveling from here to there.
Im sure many of us remember how just not too long ago, even at her age, you could see her driving to church services, family reunions, or simply visiting a friend or neighbor.
Now Aunt Ruby, as she was called by many, had an art that not all of us have the patience for. She really loved to quilt! If you had stopped by her home you would always find a handmade quilt or two lying around. She made them all sizes, patterns and colors, it was a hobby that was very important to her, and she took pride in what she had created.
Ruby cared about others, and gave her time, patience, and compassion by being a foster parent to several children. There are many that called Ruby's home, their home. Whether they stayed a few months or several years, all held a place in her heart. Roy, Etta, Doshie, just to name a few, and lets not forget Quana, a special little girl who held her own special spot in her heart. Even though this was some time ago, she always had a big smile on her face whenever she spoke of the children that had come her way.
She is survived by the following family members: 3 step sons: Gary, Roger, and Greg Pennington, 1 granddaughter, Angie Walker and husband David, and 1 great grandson Mitchell Walker.
She is also survived by the following nieces and nephews: Harold Banks and wife Daisy, J.L. Banks and wife Ruthene, Don Banks and wife Debbie, Clarence Banks and wife Loretta, Dayrel Banks and wife Geraldene, Alex Schell, Donnie Schell, Bernice Peters, Imogene Robinson and husband Jim Bob, Alice Schell, and Shirley Schell.
Ruby also leaves 24 great nieces and nephews, 40 great great nieces and nephews, and 14 great great great nieces and nephews to mourn her death.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Nannie Schell Banks of Clay County, her brother Ralph and his wife Beatrice Dotson Banks of Annville, her infant twin sisters Eva and Edna Banks, her second husband Ernest Pennington, her first husband, Clyde Hoskins with whom she had one son, Larry Hoskins who passed away in 1985, one nephew Bill Hall Banks, and her brother Raliegh and wife Edith.

We would like to thank her nephew Don Banks and wife Debbie for all they have done, making sure Ruby was being cared for and getting the treatment she needed in her last days.
